The chapter opens with a meteor striking the sea. It's too powerful a force to be defeated, and it's destroying everything in its path. The narrator wonders if someone is keeping the time between the two worlds closed. He wonders if he can open the doors to the future, but he can't figure out a way to do it. He decides to make the doors of the future the gateway to his new world. He'll be able to go back to his old world and live happily ever after. The letters are popping up all over the place, and the narrator wonders what's wrong with them. He doesn't know where to go to rewrite them, but the letters are coming back to the way they were before the explosion. He swears that he'll always return to the old world.
