This chapter opens with a description of the main character, a woman named Asuka, who is a member of the Magic Sluggers. Asuka is the only woman in the guild who works as a mother. She has been married to a wizard named Alzack for six years, and they have two children, Asuka and alzack Jr. The chapter ends with a discussion of the upcoming festival, which is supposed to pit magic against other forms of magic. This is the first time we see Asuka. She tells us that she has been training her nervous system to become a vessel for her magic power. She says that she wants to use the festival as an opportunity to train her own nervous system so that she will be able to use her magic at the most critical moment. She explains that she thinks that love is the one magic, but that it is also strong at one time and weak at the other.
