The chapter opens with a soliloquy about manhood. It's a quote from Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, in which he says, "If man has only one life, then he sees that the flower that blooms in manhood blooms." This is a reference to the fact that the main character of the story, the Black Knight, is wearing a black scarf and black clothes. He's worried about how he's going to organize his outfit for the test, but he refuses to let the test slide. This is the time for the second test, he says. The Black Knight is reborn, and the members of the fairy tail are gathered on the island. They're going to take them all and burn them all to the ground. This will be a "merciful war" for the guild, he warns. He also says that they're coming to find him. They sent them out to find a grave without any hint, and he doesn't have a clue where it is. He says that the reason they sent out is because he has "mind power," which is the ability to think of things in terms of their meaning. For example, if the wizard says that a grave is a place where one's life is ended, then the mystery of the grave must be hidden.
