About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy about the burning earth. The narrator says that his life is "a fleeting dream" and that he can't recall anything he did wrong. He says that he's just been writing reports about incidents. He doesn't know what's going on, but he hopes that the others are okay. He decides to take the captain down and go on his way to get rid of the heads of the sinners. The captain says that the acid is tough on his sword, but it won't be able to stop it forever. He's also worried about the green paper that's floating around. He thinks that they're trying to kill him and the others. He goes on to say that the spores make him drowsy, and once he falls asleep, he'll never wake up again. Then he hears the earth effect. It's like a band of molten rock breaking apart. He grabs the captain and tells him to hurry up and get out of the way. He also tells the captain to go see the princess and decide whether or not the eclipse is the path to the moon. He asks the captain if he should give him his hand, and the captain says he should. He then says that if he ever gets out of this place, he should go to the princess. He wants to know if the path is the right one, and if it's the moon's path, he wants to see her. The Captain says that it isn't for him to decide, but for the two of them to decide whether the eclipse should be the path or not. He thanks the captain for being so nice, and says he'd like to show him a photo of himself standing in the lava. He wishes he could show
