This chapter's epigraph comes from a poem by a famous poet, Henry David Thoreau. In the poem, Thoreau says that he hates the world because it is full of people who do not deserve to be hated. He says, "I hate the world so much that I can't stand it any longer. I hate everything in it, even if there were a god who could save one kid. He also says that the only way he can save his sister is to hate the whole world.
