About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a soliloquy by Edgar Allan Poe. In it, Edgar explains that he is a "fairy tail" , and that he wants to return to the "then celestial world" . He asks that the gate of the Lion Palace be opened so that he can return to his former home. He says that he will show Edgar that it is impossible for a celestial spirit to defy a human. He also says that a human can never hope to return, and so he can force the gate open. Edgar asks that Edgar stop trying to save him, because he is already guilty of the same crime. Edgar says that it pains him to think that a friend of Edgar's should have been murdered, but he says that the same thing happened to Edgar three years ago, and Edgar has been tortured for the past three years. Edgar is not asking Edgar to forgive him for his crime, he is asking that he be allowed to go back to his home in the celestial world. Edgar agrees, and says that Edgar is cool for being a "bearded old man" who has been pardoned. Edgar thanks Edgar for saving his life, and promises to help him in the future.
