The chapter opens with a description of Faire Atle, who is 36 years old and has been married for three years. He is a strict adherent of a strict regimen. He tells his wife that he is a woman and that he does not feel any shame in his clothing. He explains that maker magic gives him the most freedom and that ten makers give him ten different forms. He says that he will find his own form among the ten makers and that when they make too much noise, he will give much noise to one of them. He asks how long it will take them to surpass him and he says that it is his dream to someday defeat Deliora. He wants to know why he is stripping in such a place and he asks if he is teaching them the powerful magic. He replies that he already teaches it to them and asks if they are ready to start teaching it to him. He then asks if there is a chance that he might die and if he will hate him more powerful magic for some reason. He wonders if he might have planned it and wonders if the ruins look like they are on the move. He calls for help and says that if he were to die, he would hate him even more.
