In this chapter, we learn that the "Guild of Hope" is still trying to figure out what's going on. They're still waiting for the "cancel code" to show up, but they're not sure if they'll be able to get it. The "Cobra" explains that he used to teach the "Ministry of the Mind" how to develop magical devices, and he still holds that knowledge. He doesn't need a code to do anything, he just needs to negate the effect of the magic square. The ethernanos, he says, made his mind unstable, and now he can hear the sound of "the extinction of light" coming from the ground. He's convinced that they've reached the end of the age of light, and that the only way to stop it is to stay alive.
