In this chapter, we learn that the two men plan to kill one another at their leisure. We learn that this is not the first time that they've plotted against one another, but this time, it's more serious. This time, however, they're going to do it in a way that's going to make them both feel guilty. They're both going to have to take the blame for what happened, and they'll have to live with the guilt for the rest of their lives. This is going to be a major psychological blow for both of them. They both know that they can't possibly kill each other, but they have to. They also know that if they do, it won't be a suicide, but it will be an act of self-sacrifice. The only thing that can stop them both from killing each other is for one of them to kill himself. This isn't going to happen, and neither of them wants to be the one who does it. So, they decide to take it easy on one another.
