More than 100 years before fairy tail was established, a black wizard named zeref defeated a dark wizard named magnolia in a battle in the forest. The black wizard won because he used some "black magic" that was not yet complete. The next year, the first caravan trade war started, and the enemy lines were beginning to crumble. Unsure of how to counter the enemy, the black wizard decides to use the left flank of his army to pull back the enemy forces. He also decides to watch how the enemy moves in and out of the forest, so that he can stop the enemy wizards. The magic world realizes that the war is over, and they enter into an inter- guild treaty that brings peace to the magic world for a period of time. Reflecting on the past, the Black Wizard says that he was the reason they won back then, but that the rumors say that he's 300 years old. The Black Wizard also says that the rumor about him being a father has been around for ten years, and that he hasn't changed since then. He says that when he used the law, he decided who should live and who should die. Now that he knows the rumors about him, he doesn't have to say cruel things about them. He's a dad, he says.
