This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the previous chapter, in which the main character, yanjiu, is fighting with the main antagonist, the demon, in a battle that is supposed to take place on the left side of the battlefield. This time, however, the fight is coming from the right side. The main antagonist is not fighting from the front, but from the back. This is because the demon has made a "copy" of himself with his "innate energy" , and the two of them are planning to fight on the front. Unsure of the identity of the "original" and the "reformer," the demon attacks the latter, claiming that he has lost the ability to control his own innate energy. The demon then turns his attention to the coyotes, who have taken over the fight. He wonders if the energy of the phoenix soaring crystal can give the coyotes a boost, and he begins to worry that if they start a fight, it will attract the giant golems attention. He then turns to the dark coyote, who has also been left outside, and says that he believes that no one wants to see him using that coyote to attract "the giant puppets" in the courtyard of the alchemist's laboratory. Confused, he turns to leave, but he is interrupted by the sound of a splash coming from outside the courtyard.
