In the midst of a trial of clan loyalty, the two men encounter the "tidal surge," a sacred ground where only those who have paid trial talismans can enter. The two men are eager to enter, but they are met by han liusu and his younger sister, who demand to know why they are not allowed to enter. When they refuse, they are kicked out of the place.
