In this chapter, we learn that Gui and his sister are on their way to meet with their mother, Madame Pernelle. They've come because they want to find out if one of their children will be able to obtain the legacy, which Madame Perestroika has forbidden them to do. The two women discuss the fact that the ship has been "targeted" by the other world, and that they've already seen the existence of the other worlds' fiends on the mother's side of the ocean. Madame Pereroika wonders if her children will succeed in their mission, but she's afraid that they won't be able because they're so short on people. She wants to see if her soul can be strong enough to kill beings, even saints, with a "single word" .
