In this chapter, we learn that most of the people who have come to the Forest of Ardenne are looking for the "skeleton's legacy," but they can't find it in all the years they've been at the Forest. The only thing that can be done is to retreat, and that's what they're going to do. Gui tells us that he's just a grass-root cultivator, so he'd like to leave with the rest of the group first. He doesn't really know what's going on between the two groups, but he does know that they'll all die if they stay behind. Gui says that he fell for the plan, and he'll be glad to go back, too. He's not worried about the fear of being reborn, he says. He just wants to get out of there. He says that the alliance has lost the advantage in numbers, so they should be careful. He also says that Dongfang Gui probably only stayed behind to kill Gui, because he took Gui's sister to bring her back to his master. Gui thinks that this means that there's a lower-ranking god behind Gui, and they should assume that the fear is even stronger. He tells Gui that all his intent is to kill a group of "higher-ranking true gods," and that he was created with the intention of killing those higher-ranking gods, not to be manipulated by them. Gui is surprised that he hasn't already figured this out
