This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the nocturnal lieutenant. He tells the reader that the entire clan of the nocturnals will avenge him if he kills him. He says that he won't be killed if he admits defeat, but that he will be killed anyway. He compares the fight with the previous fights, saying that he got more light from the woman in this fight than the previous ones. He also says that the kid who defeated the lieutenant was a god-level genius from the nocturnal sacred place. He adds that if they just let the kid proceed at his own pace, the humans will be able to get another seat in the tower. The lieutenant says that if he can't defeat the human, he'll just kill him with "holy smites" . This is the last resort, he says, and he's going to use holy smites on the human when he gets stronger. He asks the lieutenant if there's anyone else who's willing to challenge him, and the lieutenant tells him that there is one of the other nocturnals with the human. He suggests that the two of them go to the brothel to have some fun, since the humans are living creatures too. He then tells the lieutenant that he is a ninth-layer lieutenant from the place of the purple heart, and that the woman who ordered him to go with the man that day is the one who stood in his way that night. He apologizes to the woman, but she's not there anymore, so he doesn't talk to her anymore. This chapter ends with the lieutenant saying that the only way to befriend someone is to tell them who wants to see him.
