About This Chapter
In this chapter, the protagonist discusses his decision to retire from the police force. He feels that he's leaving a "legal record" of his illegal activities. He's twenty-five years old now, and he was "pretty high on myself" when he made the switch. He still believes in god, but he doesn't believe in good and evil as much as he used to. He doesn''t want to leave the police, he says, because he'd like to be able to use the information he has to help the next woman on his list. The protagonist tells us that the last time he "punched out" a vampire, the tooth turned out to be fake. He can't wait to see what the next vampire will do. He says he'll never " shirk from duty" , even if it means having two vampire artifacts. He adds that the idea of being able to have two artifacts is "scared" but he won't shirk from his job. One month later, he still feels uneasy, and one of his last women is still on his "bucket list" . He thinks that this woman is probably a "cyber-narcissist," but he thinks she's just using science to "study the witchblade." The protagonist concludes that the voice of the vampire in his head is still with him.
