About This Chapter
"Ink Assists" The narrator tells us that he and his co-workers were out on the hot summer night when they heard about the murder. They thought it must have been a crazy guy, but after they saw the body, they prayed for a simple explanation. They prayed for someone to get to the bottom of the matter. The narrator says that the man picked up the girl and she "just fell to pieces" like a well-done leg of turkey. He says that no one has ever seen such a thing before, and he wonders if it could have been done by a "yakuza" . He also says that it smells like "trouble" , and that it pierced the man's lung and caused the blood loss. He wonders if the man is getting too much testosterone from his uncle, but he doesn't know what to make of it. He tells the narrator that he is sorry that her husband was killed, but that he feels sorry for her because she broke her mommy if she hurt her daddy. He asks her to come in a few minutes and then he'll leave them alone.
