Ben says that he had gone to the "ghost world" of the "Ashenlands" to see if Alisa would participate in a "medical experiment." She had said that she would do so, but had not mentioned anything about her own life. He says that his recent divorce might have made her nervous, and he wonders if there is a "something following" him. He wonders if he is afraid of "some dyke," and wonders if his recent marriage might be making him nervous. He asks if he could use his tattoo on Alisa to make her "mine again," and she says that she did not want to reveal herself to him because she was concerned about a "nosy woman" who was trying to find out about her family. The men wonder if this cain is more than "parlor tricks."
