About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a brief description of the protagonist's leg. The protagonist is described as a native staff member of a tabloid newspaper. The newspaper is being thrown on a desk, and another headline reads: "Mayor's staff Caught in Sex Scandal" . The editor of the tabloid newspaper is also present, and the editor of an alternative newspaper is present as well. The two of them discuss the new story, which is about the mayor's employees caught in a sex scandal. The alternative newspaper, the editor says, is not the same paper as the New York Times, but he does not want to be "the national enquirer" either, so he will not run the story. The setting is a hot shower, so the steam fills the room. The detective, gleason, is in a shower with sara, who is standing behind him. She is holding his arm, and he is looking at her with his eyes closed. They can see that she is crying, and she is moving closer to kiss him. They are looking at the vanity, and they see that the cell phone is in the same spot on the vanity as before. They cut back inside to show the car, and then cut back again to show them getting out of it. The police have taken over the scene, and a uniformed officer is pointing them in the direction of the crime scene. sara asks why they need the feds involved, but the detective says that the punishment is someone else's, and that the city pays them to catch the murderer. They enter the building, and there is a police officer pointing them into the study where the body of the murdered rabbi has been found. A uniformed police officer is standing outside, and an elderly Jewish woman is sitting on a chair. The woman tells them that she has a restless leg syndrome and that she had to tell a community spokesman about what had happened. The community spokesman is serving as a liaison to the police.
