About This Chapter
"Of redemption origin secret" This chapter opens with a conversation between a detective named Peter Gin and a lieutenant named Philphipps. The lieutenant tells the detective that he has a message for him: the key to the bank's internal affairs office was found in the pocket of a suicide victim named Jaques Mccarthy. The detective tells the lieutenant that he is writing down all the details of what he has seen and heard. He is afraid that he will convince himself that the things he saw and heard were just the result of his imagination, but right now, he knows it is real. He asks the lieutenant if he can come back and finish the story later, after he has taken his medicine for an ulcer. He says that he was told that he would be expecting him, but he can't come back if he has to ask for the captain's permission. He adds that the detective's family comes from a police family, so it's no surprise that they would put a cop on the job. He also says that Sara's "impulsive" nature makes it easier for her to get the job done. She went to the theater to find a gathering of lowlifes, not to mention cugliani's death. He doesn't understand how the witchblade got into the hands of the mob, and he wonders if she is happy to be a cop and a witchblade.
