About This Chapter
In this chapter, the detective explains that she is the only female member of the squad and that the witchblade "just complicates things" . She tells us that every morning they have a pool of reports of homicides and that this makes her either a "magician" or a "masochist" , depending on whom you ask. The first sign of apocalypse, she says, is when a gang of killers shows up at the scene of a murder. The second sign is that the killer's "necrotically challenged" -- that is, he's had a heart attack and has been thrown onto a hospital bed for the night. He's desperate for relief, he says, and the first guy is a "real sweet heart" out of the projects. The other guy is "black for unsolved red" for a solved crime, but he tries to tell the family that it's an unsolved crime. The smell of the morgue makes her "creep" and she swears that the place gives her the creeps. She asks the other detective if he'll let her watch his figure for a while, and he says no, but that he'd like to see it for a bit. He tells her that he doesn't want to get pezzini on the case, and she says that's why she's so loyal to him. She says she'll put him on a stretcher and come back later.
