About This Chapter
The magdalena, the goddess of patience, has prepared her whole life for the events of this chapter. She tells the man who is speaking to her that he is the agent of the "vampire" and that he should show her what he was born to do. He is supposed to be her partner, she says, but he is ruining the moment. She asks him if he has ever heard about religious freedom, and he says that she was doing work here and seems to have disappeared. He says that he would appreciate it if he did not disturb her, but judging from the well placed coin on the wall, he would say that her new partner had discovered something that did not seem to be there. This is what patience had been sensing the previous night when they were here. She says that this is the "sepher hazim" or book of mysteries, and that she is a woman who has somehow acquired this weapon of immense powers that has her own mind, and she is fighting creatures from mythology with the "super-powered agent" from the "vatican" . He asks her how she got involved in this and she says that it is not her fault, but that it was not his fault. He wonders why his wife and son were so fascinated by the "solites" and why his son was so devoted to them. He speculates that his son is addicted to them and that "something very, very dangerous" is at work.
