About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to Detective Jake Mccarthy, a member of the New York City Police Department. We are told that Jake is dead, but that he has left us with no answers to our questions. Jake's last words are that he is the "resurrection and the life" of the universe, and that whoever believes in him will live even though he is dead. He says that the grace of God and of the Holy Spirit will be with them all evermore. Sara and Cordyce are still at the police station, and Sara asks if she can come and see Jake anytime. She says that she can, and Jake says that if she needs anything, she can call him. He tells her that the witchblade asks the question of whether the father of the child is the same person who fathered the child. Sometimes, the father is passed on to another person, and sometimes, it is left to the child's father to decide whether or not to have a child. Sara says that there is no way she could possibly ask such questions, because she has learned not to do so. She tells him that she knows the answer to the question, and he says that he cannot guide her in this way. He then tells her to think twice about "pissing off" a police officer on the police steps, because he has already had his fill of cops, and if she wants it to get worse, she should think twice. Sara asks him if he has ever heard of a knock on the door, and when he says he has, she says that it is not true. She then spills his coffee on the ground, which he says is not a good sign. He goes on to say that he had always wanted a family, but now that he knows, he will not tell her what to do.
