About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a description of the city of Gadreyel, the capitol of the Land of Faerie. It is described as a "bloody hell" and the narrator wishes he had not "busted up" the gauntlet that he used to dig himself out of the mud. He says that the city is "just a simple animal" made to dig the tunnels and "left to die" . He asks the city's mayor to forgive him for taking the life of his mother. He also asks the mayor not to make out with witches and old women because he is using them as fuel for the "creature" that his family line cursed with. The narrator tells the mayor that he has lost sleep worrying about how to get "eidolon" back from Mal. Mal has been keeping the information a secret since his father was playing the game. He tells her that he is going to get the creature back. She tells him that it sounds like a war is going on in the city. She asks him to tell her that she is okay. She says that despite the differences in their worlds, there is one thing that is the same. Mal says that he saw the creature on the glowing head box and that it had a "near well fed" hunger. He goes back to the city to get a pint of ale.
