About This Chapter
At the preliminary hearing for William hicks in New York City, the police officer who arrested him is brought before the court. He is charged with the murders of three officers and with the possession of a narcotic with the intent to distribute. William is scared and resists arrest. He realizes how wrong things have been. He feels that the white power guys have gotten a "soft spot" for themselves. He tells the officer that he is not like the cop and that he will murder after ten years if he is released. The officer tells him that he and his brothers have done enough for him. They kept his family safe when he couldn't be arrested and now he has to hold up his end. He asks the officer if his weapon has any effect on him, and the officer replies that the die is "cassss" and that Willliam has "made his choiccce" . He welcomes home his brothers and tells them that he needs to talk to them. He wants to know what is going on between him and his family. He says that he heard what he was going to do and that no one will ever come between them again. He has a plan, he says, and they are going to "get out of here" and get away from "the whole fucking neighborhood" and "that sun's bitch" will "pass that little girl" around the neighborhood. The police officer tells the court that he knows that William's father was taken away from him by people who had promised to protect him, but they interfered and took him away again.
