About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that the city morgue is in the process of shutting its doors for the night, and that the two men who are supposed to be in charge of it are none other than David wohl and Christina Z. The two men are in the middle of a conversation about the state of affairs in the city when they are interrupted by the entrance of the city's "mortal god" . The "city morgue god" asks David one question: "What the hell was I thinking / This can't possibly be happening / No, it's not happening" , and David responds by saying that the "formaldehyde - iminating hallucinating / I'm -- / tum-must ml- alive" is not happening. He then goes on to say that he was wondering if David would go to the "ministry show" tonight to celebrate the anniversary of his marriage to sara . David says that he is not there to pick up anyone, but rather to observe the "silent company" of the "morgue god." He then asks if David wants to have coffee, but David replies that he has never had coffee before and that pity is a "waste of time" in his life. He says that if he had a prior engagement, he would have given him a call, but that he would never have gotten advice like this from a "better body" before. David then says that the men are not noble about the whole affair, and he tells them to get out of the way. He tells them that he will take lisa away from them.
