About This Chapter
In this first part of the play, we learn that Petruchio has brought Cleopatra back to Egypt. He tells her that he is the rightful owner of her, and that she should not challenge him. He also tells her not to approach him too closely, as he is a god on the earth. He says that they have brought a viper in their midst, and they can do more harm than good. He asks her to give him one chance, but she refuses, saying that she has no love for him. She tells him that he has 410 ads 783 and 1191 in his possession, and he is not sure where they came from. He then asks if anyone named "rons" is "pretty high on my list" , but he is referring to Gerard irons, who is currently serving time in upstate New York. Gerard is a prick, he says, and a friend of his had a brief affair with Gerard's daughter, but they are not going to go upstate to talk to him about it. He is glad to see him, and says that he wouldn't want to miss him . He wants to keep his mouth shut before he decides to get involved in the upstate murder.
