The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. This time, the action is set in the present, and the action takes place in the dark, in a cave in the middle of nowhere. The narrator tells us that the cave is full of "weird activity" , and that something is "up" in the darkness. He adds that the "fun" is about to begin, and he thanks Tora for showing up. He tells her that he'd hoped they'd resume their "little battle," and that he expected the "filthy mafia" to show up. Tora thanks him, and tells him that the white bulls were there because he needed a "body count" for the "grand design" to work. He says that if they had believed him, he would have told them, but that they probably would not have believed him. The white bulls are here because he needs a body count, he says, and they're here to help him. He wants to "destroy dark" now, but he can't, because he's found someone who prefers to serve "the darkness" .
