About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the 1990s, when the telecommunications company, kaplan, went out of business. Many people wondered how a company with a four-year history in the red could possibly survive. The company's chief executive, Jonathan Epner, says that thanks to some "creative nip and tucks," the company decided it was time for an investigation. Epner tells the audience that he is a "married man" and that he does not know if he should be doing such a thing. He tells them that he has a tattoo on his forehead that looks like it was made after the death of the man who killed him. He asks if anyone else has seen the tattoo, and they all agree that they have. The feds are working on a composite drawing of the killer's description, which they hope to complete by the end of the summer. They also learn that the woman who killed the man is Patience, a character in a comic book series that is to be published in the fall. The narrator tells us that Patience's name is patience, and that she will be in the comic book as a "patience." The narrator asks the audience if they would like to hear more from the killer, but they do not want to wait for ten minutes. They want to know what the killer did, and the narrator says that he did not see anything to do with it. He says that the killer is still an "@sshole," and that they need to get upstairs and see what he saw. They need to go upstairs, he says, and he says that they are just holding him back. They are just "holding me back," he says. He adds that the witchblade is similar to the digitablum in that it is made of a magic material. The fact that the undead creatures were able to "cancel its power out" is a sign that they were made of the same magic material as the "digitablum" .
