About This Chapter
In this short scene, Sara explains to her father that she has confessed to her sins six weeks after her last confession. She tells him that her sins are serious and that she wants him to come see her again. She asks him to give her more time to make up her mind about whether or not she wants to marry Leroux. He tells her that the decision has already been made and that he is here to tell her about it, not to discuss her opinion of it merits. He says that he will take care of the matter. He asks her to eat breakfast before the food arrives and to not fight with the other kids. He also asks her not to call him "Mccarthy" because he is just meeting her for breakfast. She says that she does not like that guy. She reminds him that she is a detective and that the things they never talked about were so about her that she and she pieced together that thing. She explains that during the Renaissance the sect of priests began to explore the dark arts and cull forbidden knowledge from books that had been confiscated by the church. They became concerned with wealth and political power than with a powerful living god.
