In this chapter, we learn that the police officer who was supposed to be at the scene of the crime has been taken to the hospital. As the police car pulls away from the scene, we hear the officer's last words to Sara: "you gotta believe me, i didnt know this" . Sara asks why the officer was not at his post, and the officer replies that he was busy playing poker with his friends. Sara tells us that the officer lives in a condo building out on a pleasant street, and that he is the "Officer of the Year" for the police department. The police officer says that the body is not real, but that it is the body of a man who has been wrongfully convicted seven times over. Sara says that she would like to see the body, but she is terrified to ask what has happened.
