About This Chapter
Land leisten tells the gang that he's not sure if he'll be the last person to have the totem. He's been using it for a while, but he doesn't know if it's supernatural or not. He says he'd like to be able to say that he was in charge of the car all the time, but after what he has seen, he'm not sure. He tells them that they need to keep going until they find out what's really going on. They should skip the part where they try to get into the house, he says, because there's no one home. He also says that the men have waited centuries for a new god, and they're likely to succeed. He gives them a totem, which he says is meant for the new god. The totem belongs to him because no one else has the power to destroy the beast. The men are glad to see him, and he says that he thought he was on the edge of nowhere. He thanks them for coming, and says that if he hadn't been able to see the lights, he would have been wandering around looking for food. They're all good guys, he tells them. They need to get rid of his jacket, which is still on him, because he figured out a way to kill them.
