About This Chapter
Sara, the missing girl's mother, asks gleason to help find her. She says that the police told her that the girl was missing for twenty-four hours, but that something was wrong. She's ten and almost eleven years old, and she would have been wearing a school uniform. Sara says that she's seen the girl in the park a couple of hours ago, but she doesn't know where she is. She wants to know who the girl is with, and what she was doing there. She asks if he has anything to do today, and he says he does. He says that he's read his department's cases with kids, and that sometimes these things do not end well, but sometimes they don't. He tells her that he saw the girl at the park two hours ago. He's glad that he didn't spend the whole hour chasing down the bulls, because then he'd be upset. He wants to protect the girl, but he knows that he can't, because she'd get mad at him if she found out that he was there. He asks if she was with her brother, and if he knows anything about her. He also asks if there's anything he can do to help, and says he'll try to find something to snap. He heads upstairs to check the offices, and then he heads back downstairs to tell the grandmother.
