About This Chapter
The next morning, the gang returns to the crime scene, where they find that the bone fragments they recovered from the murder of the rabbi are not real. They are, however, "pretty damn unlikely" to have been used to murder the rabbi. Detective Gilleason and Detective Pezzini leave the scene, and the gang heads back to the tutu-ballet studio where they had planned to meet. The detective asks the gang if they think he is doing a good job, and they all agree that he is. He tells them that he needs to meet his partner, and he is not leaving them wandering around by himself. He says that he will meet them at the studio the next day, and that they should all go back to their jobs. He asks them to be "a little looser" and not to tell him what they are doing. He wants them to keep their mouths shut, but they all want him to "be a little looser." The detective tells them to go ahead and do whatever they want with their lives. He reminds them that they are supposed to follow the rules, but that they have to be careful not to get into any trouble. He adds that he has to meet with his partner the next morning. The group heads back into the studio, where the detective tells the gang that they seem to be a bit down. He is not sure how they will get away from the "scumbag." He says he is scared of him, but he does not know how. He wonders if the police line did not cross something they had missed the "first time" , and wonders if they have any idea who committed the crime. He also asks if they know anyone who could have tried to hurt Ganymede, but the detective says that no one would do such a thing to him.
