In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, a member of the Ashen-Fires family, who has just arrived at the skysoul institute. He is introduced as "Redsoul," and we learn that he is the instructor of the school. Redsoul tells the students that they are all geniuses, and that after the first year, only five of them will be allowed to go to the East district. If they want to stay in the West district, they have to wait until the second year.
