This chapter's epigraph comes from the opening lines of Act IV, Scene 1 : "What technique is it / It's a thunderbird!" . This is a reference to the fact that the thunderbird is a giant thunderbird. The thunderbird's lightning strikes directly to the soul of the man who is fighting it, not to the man's physical body. This means that, in the end, victory will be won by the soul, not by the physical body of the opponent. In other words, it's the lightning that's broken the barrier between the two of them. The lightning has also broken the soul barrier that has separated the two men for so long. Now that the lightning has broken through the barrier, the two will be able to fight each other.
