In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, who is introduced as "the furious snail" . We learn that he is an assistant to the headmaster of the school, and that he has been sent to fetch a breakfast for the students. The students are shocked to learn that they have been punished for talking back to the teacher. They are also shocked that the girl has taken the time to show her love for a nameless boy. The assistant tells the students to return to their seats for class. He also tells them that there will be a group of students observing the lesson.
