This chapter opens with a description of the situation in the Ming tribe. The Ming chief tells the story of how he and his family were forced to leave Ming city because of a lack of resources. Ming's father, the Ming chief's son, has traded provisions with the Mings in exchange for food. Ming explains that the Ming people live in a very poor settlement, and they have to rely on the help of Ming to survive.
