In this chapter, Dr. Manette explains that he is not a member of the human race, but a remnant of the ancient human race. He is willing to serve both the human and the ancestral human tribes, but he does not think that the ancestors of the two tribes will be aware of his existence. He explains that the two of them entered the Sacred Phantom Palace together, and that fate brought them to him. He asks why they need to see the good and the evil in the world while they cannot be seen. If he were to become a disciple of the ancestral master, he would have the ability to command anyone in the ancestral lineage, but from that moment on, someone would go after him for the remainder of his life. The ancestral master would be able to see through his mind and heart, but no one could shelter him. The only thing that would stop him from killing the demon lord would be for him to find his own dead. He says that if he were able to defeat the sage emperor, his legacy would pass to him alone.
