This chapter opens with a rumble. It's the middle of the day, and the narrator is trying to find his way back to his grandfather and his granddaughter. He's worried that they've just released the slaves, and he wants to know where they're going. He doesn't want to disturb his grandfather or his granddaughter, so he runs off to find them.
