In the courtyard of Ziziyun's palace, Deryn tries to rustle up some letters to her friends, but they're too dangerous. Deryn says that she's going to find an underground area where she can find the dark guild, and then she'll be able to destroy it. She doesn't want to be alone in the dark, she says, and she'd rather be alone than be in the open with the enemy.
