About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between Petrarch and Gaspard. Petrarch tells Gaspard that his brother, Gaspard, is the chief holy knight. Gaspard asks Petrarch why he hasn't come to see him, and Petrarch replies that he's been working for Gaspard for a long time, and that they've developed a secret weapon against the demons. He adds that Gaspard's curse is the same curse that Petrarch cursed on him when he tried to kill his brother. He also thanks Petrarch for his "boost" , and says that if it hadn't been for Petrarch's "boost," he would've all been "mincemeat" by now. He thanks Gaspard even more for his help in killing Petrarch, and thanks him for being his "one true friend" since he was a child. He asks Gaspard to sing a song about the battle that's just taken place in the north of Britain, where nine towns and nine villages have been attacked by the "Ten Commands" . He's shocked that the entire British army has been rendered powerless by one single command, and he wonders if it's possible that the capital of the south has been taken over by the demons, who are currently the second largest kingdom in the world after lions. Finally Gaspard tells Petrarch that he just wants to help the people of his kingdom, and asks him to speak a bit more politely.
