About This Chapter
In this short scene, Bardolph tells the audience that he has sinned seven times in the course of his life. He tells Bardolph that he is still the same man that he was when he first fell in love with Elizabeth. He asks Bardolph if he has heard anything about the events of the previous day. Bardolph says that he did not hear anything, and that he does not have any reason to believe that the events that have transpired have anything to do with him. He says that if Bardolph does not protect them, they will be able to attack him and Elizabeth at once. He adds that he will take Elizabeth on as many occasions as he wants. He does not want to kill her, he says, because he is the fairy king, and he knows that she has stolen her innocence and her heart. He feels that it is too late for her to regret her actions, but he wishes that they could have turned back time and he could have chosen a different path for her. He wishes that he could ask him to grant him a second chance to save her.
