About This Chapter
Back in the forest, Bardolph asks Bardolph how long he's planning to stay there. Bardolph says he'll leave soon, too, since Bardolph's "highness" is getting too high for him. He tells Bardolph that he owes him a favor, and that he'd like to see him "care about me" . He's going to find out a way to help Bardolph bring back elaine from the dead, and he wants Bardolph to be his friend, not his enemy. He says that Bardolph is supposed to be a friend of Bardolph, but Bardolph doesn't seem to care about him at all. He also says that he hates the fact that the captain is waiting for him to come back from the festival alive. He wants to go to the shop with Bardolph so that he can buy some ingredients and booze, but the captain won't let him go. He tries to calm Bardolph down by saying that he hasn't seen the king in a while, but that's because Bardolph isn't like that. He goes on to say that if he ever lost the king, he would die of "loneliness" , but if he did, he wouldn't be able to get back to the king. He asks the captain to walk him home, and the captain says that they should walk together, since the king doesn' t mean to go out with them. The captain says he doesn t understand why the captain would want to walk with him, and Bardolph points out that he didn't know the captain was right there, so the captain shouldn't have to tell him what's up. He gives Bardolph a picture of what happened the day they were chased by the boars, and asks him to give back the hat he stole. Bard
