This chapter's epigraph comes from a soliloquy by Dr. Bledsoe in which he says, "I am the great sin of pride. I am the leader of the goddesses es four archangels. I will help me at once" . He's referring to the fact that he's the head of the goddess's archangels, which means that he has the authority to command the armies of the gods. He also says that if he doesn't follow his orders, he'll "slug" him.
