In this chapter, we learn that the demon race has returned to attack the fairy kingdom again. The fairy king, Harlequin, is now in the middle of a battle with the monster, who is trying to "flap andraprad" the flower from the tree of the sacred fairy realm. The monster is too much for the fairy king to defeat, and the forest will soon be lost to the evil spirits. The old man tells the boy that he has brought the forest back from the flames, and that he is grateful to him for his efforts. He says that the old man is not fit to be a fairy king because he is old, and he must be selected by the tree. The boy tells him that he does not know what he is doing in the forest, but he does know that the girl who came to the forest with him would like to leave.
