About This Chapter
In this short poem, Proteus laments that fate has wrought havoc upon him and his fellow heroes, but that now they must be grateful to their destinies with all their hearts. He laments the fact that his fate rests on his shoulders, like that of all the other heroes. He is certain that if he were to use sunshine again, he would be killed by the sun's rays. He urges Cap-Taunt to go with him to the "dragon hunting grounds" where he has been hiding. He tells the captain to be careful because the "mindscape" that they are about to enter belongs to the demon lord and not to the heroes.
