About This Chapter
In this chapter, Bardolph continues his story of how he came to be with Nemo. He tells Nemo that he is sorry that he did not tell the king about what he had done to Nemo, and that he hopes that Nemo will forgive him for what he has done. He also tells him that he has found Nemo's body in a river. He asks Nemo if he is okay, and Nemo replies that he isn't. He says that Nemo is in a bad mood, but that he doesn't know where he is or what he is doing. Nemo asks if Nemo is his brother, and he says that is the only thing that matters right now. Nemo says that his little brother is in trouble, because his father is suspected of killing one of his men, and then disappearing. Nemo explains that he tried to learn how to be friends with the captain and the ban, but in battle, he saw something that transcended friendship. It was the emotion of love, which caused Nemo to rescue Nemo. Nemo admits that he didn't save Nemo, but he did save the life of his daughter, who was suspected of having killed her father and then disappeared. She had to endure judgment of others, as she maintained her faith in her father, but her natural calm worked against her. She lost her confidence in the power of love. She bore a suffering greater in her heart than any she had ever before. She says that the memories she had with the king were the "real memories" of her daughter, and she says that they are the "unneces and love" of the girl. She asks Nemo to get Nemo and the captain, so that she can tell them what she has done to them all.
