About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between the king's son, the Duke of Albany, and the Duke's father, the late Henry Bolingbroke. The epigraph is from Henry's letter to his father, in which he states that he will not be satisfied until he has "crushed" his son. The Duke, however, is not satisfied with his son's speech. He tells his father that he is a "cold blooded lot of criminal" and that the kingdom is under attack from the "new genera" of the new witches. The new witches, he says, are here to keep the king from escaping. The old witches' magic auras have vanished and the magic of the castle has been replaced by the "holy knights" of King Henry IV. The knights are there to keep Henry from getting away. Henry curses his son for not being able to defeat the old witches. He says that if he were defeated, he would "piss off" the king. Henry replies that his son is wasting his time and that he has no choice but to "crush" him.
