The chapter ends with a discussion between the two young men about the novel they've been working on. The narrator says that he's sorry that the novel isn't finished yet, but that he hopes that he can finish it soon enough. The two men discuss the fact that they're both "book worms" , and the narrator says he'd like to be able to spend more time with the young man. He's worried that the two of them will end up working together, too, and that they won't be as close as they used to be. He also says that the worst thing that can happen to a writer is that he or she can't "under stand" .
